Have you not heard it quite often, of doing good ...living for others... helping others..
Then did you ask the question.... Why ? Why should you live for someone else ?
Isnt that person given his share of being...which is life.. given equally to all to live it according to one's own choice ..to make whatever you wish out of it... the Free Will concept.
Moreover, look for the basic motive of doing good deeds. It is to feel good for oneself. If i have lot of money and i spend some in charity...sponsoring a child for education... contributing towards meals of poor... i am doing it for nothing but my own satisfaction. You feel proud to have done so.. since you are not the other person's body or mind, you cant live for it. You are responsible towards your own body, mind & soul and nothing else.
We want to be a good son/daughter, good spouse, good parent... why all.. just to ensure we directed our life well and tomorrow we are able to flaunt it. The greatness in achieving all this is afterall, raising your own abilities, exploring your self and accomplishing tasks which help you exercise all of your emotions, your feelings, your abilities.
Human is selfish. Human is greedy. There is nothing wrong in being so unless you are hurting your fellows. Because when you hurt someone, it may or may not affect your emotions but then you become liable to recieve back the same treatment sometime. This makes us defensive and fearful. Freedom is lost. Life doesnt remain as it should be.
If i am born with talent like Tiger woods or Sonu nigam or vishwanathan anand, it is neither my greatness nor someone elses'. If i work hard to ensure that talent is nurtured enough to become what made me write those names, there lies my greatness.
Greatness is in exploring the meaning of life, in the course of which you enjoy the journey of life, be observative, understand the best interpretations of everything happening around you. Thats the best shot you can give to start with. Then everyone has his/her own definitions, fundaes & ideologies.
